The Newest Free To Air FTA Receivers
The Neusat HD High Definition FTA Receiver

Now that High Definition FTA Receivers have been slowly coming to the DSS marketplace we are graced with another fine product capturing the niche of HD FTA programming. The latest newcomer is the Neusat HD. After listening to what many users wanted and taking advice of die hard satellite dish users Neusat has produced a very solid and user friendly receiver that seems to be at the top of the satellite dish receiver pile.

At a base price price of around $329 USD we were shipped a unit from and were instantly impressed by its
overall looks. Quality fit and finish is apparent with this new unit right from the buttons, front display
and high quality remote control. Boasting one of the easiest setup guides in the industry we were amazed
at how the Neusat HD found all of our dishes, lnb's, switches and satellites. It's basically a hands off setup so any user regardless of experience will have absolutely no trouble getting this thing to find all of your current settings and satellite.

We were also impressed with the quality of the GUI graphic user interface with its bold colors and vivid display. The days of menus and sub menus are gone with the Neusat HD as everything is simplified and is no more than 2 clicks of the remote from the main menu. The front panel LCD display is also very cool as it displays the name of the current channel you are watching.

What's even nicer about this unit is the ability to make firmware and programming updates via the USB slot on the front of the unit. Simply download your firmware or program update, reboot the receiver and the files are instantly recognized and you are then given the option to install whichever file is on the on screen menu. Very slick and definately a bonus option for those who are a little technically challenged.

Any USB drive will work with this as long as it is clean and has nothing except Neusat related files on it, Neusat also sells their own USB drives on their website. For 10$ you can get a USB drive and forgoe a lot of hassle. Simply download your file on your PC, copy it to the USB drive, insert it into the unit and voila!

Channel scanning is one of the fastest we've ever seen and simplified in the menu system. Order your channels alphabetically or numerically and off you go. The Electronic Program Guide EPG is very quick and filled our 7 day request in no time. 3 days is the standard.

Picture quality of this unit in 1080i is stellar. We tried another unit at another DSS testers location and
were immediatly impressed with the quality. At lower resolutions the quality is their as well partly to the geat
quality component video and HDMI connections.

Our last word on this unit is impressive. It is pretty apparent that Neusat has done a lot of research and listened to the DVB community and has produced a simple, effective and extremely high quality unit that
will appeal to all levels of FTA users. Definately 2 thumbs up in our book, even 3!

On the OTA HD channel (not one of the SD subchannels) they seem to broadcast some programs in 16:9 and some letterbox 4:3 (basically pillarbox + letterbox). Not really a problem because my 622 can zoom it, but it makes me wonder why? Laziness?
